Outline of the sermon “Be prepared to be sent!” (01/11/2026)
[Luke 10:1~16]
◆Set your focus on “the kingdom of God”!
・These disciples were sent in pairs. Two is always better than one. They can help and encourage each other, also warn one another to grow together.
・Jesus said, “I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves”. It is too dangerous! Yes, that’s why we must always depend on the Holy Spirit and concentrate our attention on “the kingdom of God and its power”.
◆Right response to “the kingdom”. (Verses 12~16)
・“Sodom” is one of the worst cities in the Old Testament, and “Tyre and Sidon” are famous for their idolatry. Jesus, however, cursed towns around Galilee where he had been visiting rather than these old evil cities. It seems Jesus was so disappointed by these towns around Galilee for they only enjoyed miracles Jesus performed among them but neither repent or accept him as “Messiah”. Jesus’ words sound too strong but “truth” often makes us ‘uncomfortable’ rather than ‘sounds nice’ to our ears. Remember, only “God’s Word itself” can save us.
Today’s Truth: “Faithfulness to God” rather than ‘Good manner with others’.
*Today’s key words: “SHU-CHU- SURU”(Concentrate), “JAAKU”(Evil), “MIMI ZAWARI YOI”(Nice to ears).
◎Questions to ponder on:
①What is good about sending disciples “in pairs” rather than one by one?
②Why did Jesus say the evil cities in Old Testament were better than towns around Galilee which refused him?
③What should we be careful of as we are sent by Jesus to proclaim his Good New?
